Current Large Projects

Transportation
Currently, we have 39 truck and pups running on the Hanford site hauling waste to various locations across the site. We have also reached over 1,000,000 miles of safe driving. We have committed and qualified teamsters that work safely and efficiently to get the job done.

Field Remediation

  • 618-10 Burial Grounds one of Hanford’s most hazardous waste sites
    • Remediation / Waste Characterization activities include:
      • Excavating burial sites with unknown waste (inclusive of encountering changing site conditions, anomalies, etc.)
      • Safely transporting drums of low-to-high activity waste from burial grounds to drum-punch-facilities for characterization of waste contents
      • Transportation of waste to the Environmental Restoration Disposal Facility (ERDF) in central Hanford
      •

Demolition

  • 308, 309, & 340 Areas
    • Demolition / Heavy Lift activities include:
      • Phoenix will remove the TRIGA Reactor in the 308-A Building, a test reactor operated in the 1960s and '70s as part of the fuels and materials research program for Hanford's Fast Flux Test Facility. The reactor will weigh about 250 tons when it is packaged for transport to the Environmental Restoration Disposal Facility (ERDF) in central Hanford.
      • The second reactor Phoenix will remove is the Plutonium Recycle Test Reactor, which weighs about 350 tons. It sat under the iconic white dome just north of Richland until the 80-foot tall containment dome was lifted off in January of 2011.
